A henge is prehistoric Neolithic monument a circle of earthwork and stone (or wooden) uprights. They’re all over celtic lands, mainly England Wales, Scotland and Irish (but some in Brittany, in France). They’re religious monuments. They have a ring bank & ditch.
"Because of the defensive impracticalities of an enclosure with an external bank and an internal ditch, henges are not considered to have served a defensive purpose”. Stonehenge is the most famous.
The word is a back-formation of the word Stonehenge (A back-formation is when you make up a word by cutting out part of a known word. For example, resurrection is English from Latin, and resurrect was then backformed hundreds of years later from it by removing the -ion suffix)

i really appreciate all details that are helping me to understand a henge....i knew about Stonehenge, everybody knows about....but i didn't know these formations are so common....so, E91 is kind of henge....cool association...
Another stunning work I see it as: The layers of our soul and passion, every layer it gets deeper to the core. Every layer has it's secrets and unspoken words. As you get closer to the core, you see there is nothing left.
This one is so mesmerizng....it's a piece of modern sculpture...outside where it should be....and the watchers who like it....It's like a little commentary...I love the watchers.......but no....it's a huge gorilla...like King Kong...and the captive love of his life enclosed in his arms......Just what were you thinking of Jon....?...So many more possibilities....Wow!
is a hundred years old life form from very hot planet X....kind of mutant between a tree and a turtle....the open area in center is the only shade for the tiny egg-seeds to develop safe...once ready, they migrate on top, on peak, where they start floating, flying all over, for a new beginning... ....agree, could be a modern sculpture....i recall some petrified trees i have seeing while visiting a dinosaur relic reservation somewhere nevada-new mexico, some years ago... ...thanks for comment, Tricia, glad you like this weird work...i like it , too...
